Are You a Smarty Pants? Here Are 4 Ways to Earn Extra Money Playing Trivia
Do you know who won the 1966 World Series? Or the name of the movie Joan Crawford won an Academy Award for?
If so, put that useless knowledge to work and start playing trivia for cash! There are thousands of dollars given away every year for team trivia, trivia tournaments, and trivia gameshows. And we’ve put together a list of a few of our favorites…
1. Watch TV & Play Trivia Online
So, you’re not going to make a ton of money doing this… but, have your heard of Perk?
It’s a cool website that will pay you to take trivia about your favorite TV shows!
Download the Perk Pop Quiz app and pick from one of the many trivia categories — The 90’s & The 2000s, Music & Movie Quotes and Famous Slogans are just a few.
The more correct answers you rack up, the more points you get. You can redeem those points for gift cards to Amazon, Starbucks, Nike, GameStop, Target and other stores.
You’re not going to get rich doing this, but it’s a fun way to make an extra $15 to $20 a month for the shows you already enjoy watching.
2. Head Out for Team Trivia
Assemble all of your smart friends and head out to a team trivia night at your local restaurant/bar. Team trivia seems to only be growing in popularity as bars/restaurants seek a way to fill seats on sleepy Tuesday nights.
You can win $25-$200 for playing, plus many restaurants give free food to the winners.
Try a Google search of your area or check out TeamTrivia.com for listings in your area.
3. Try Out for Jeopardy
Want to earn some serious cash? Try taking the online Jeopardy test to see if you can become a contestant (link).
Tests are only held are certain dates and upcoming tests are announced on the show and on their website, Jeopardy.com. Online tests are offered separately for each of the following age groups: adults, college students, teens 13 and 17 years old, and kids between the ages of 10 and 12.
If you perform well on the online test (Jeopardy won’t tell you your score) you will be asked to audition at a local testing facility. After more testing and a personality interview with producers, you will be added to the pool of available contestants.
Upside: You might win $1000s of dollars.
Downside: You have to participate in awkward 15 second interview with Alex Trebek after the first commercial break.
4. Audition for Who Wants to Be a Millionaire
Another awesome game show to audition for is “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire”.
Auditions are held around the country and you can register on the show’s website. To become a Millionaire contestant you must first pass the written test and if you pass the test, you will then need to undergo a personal interview with a representative of the show.
Finally, if you pass the audition process you will be placed in the Contestant Pool and available for selection to play the game on a future show.
Here’s the downside of this one. You’ll need to pay for your own travel arrangements to New York to be on this show. So don’t get greedy and walk away with nothing. 🙂
