Bond Movies, Unwanted Texts and Paint: 5 Class-Action Settlements Open Now

ScoreCard Research

Opportunities to cash in on class-action settlements are popping up faster than dandelions after an April shower.

According to one settlement, James Bond became The Spy Who Ditched Me when a boxed movie set of “all” 007’s movies forgot to include a couple of classics.

And if you have experienced unavailable Dish Network channels, unwanted ExactTech text messages, and rigged DuPont paint prices, you could be eligible for several of these settlements. And Californians get a little extra settlement love this month with a few just for state residents.

See if you spy a settlement or two this month that you are eligible to receive:

James Bond Boxed Movie Sets

Did you purchase a DVD or Blu-ray boxed set entitled “Bond 50: Celebrating Five Decades of Bond 007,” “The James Bond Collection,” or “The Ultimate James Bond Collection” only to find “Casino Royale” and “Never Say Never Again” were missing?

If you bought one of the sets labeled “all” or “complete” before Jan. 31, 2018, you can submit a claim that includes a receipt to receive a free download of digital copies of both movies.

The 1967 “Casino Royale” starred David Niven as Bond, and the 1983 “Never Say Never Again” starred Sean Connery in his last performance as the iconic spy.

Diamonds are forever, but this settlement offer isn’t. Click here to submit your claim by May 29, 2018.

Simply Fashion, ExactTarget

If you received unwanted text messages promoting Simply Fashion retail stores that were sent by ExactTarget, you could qualify to receive a portion of a $6.25 million Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) settlement.

ExactTarget enables retailers to use custom dialing equipment and platforms that send large numbers of text messages to cell phones at one time.

The lead plaintiff in the TCPA lawsuit alleges she texted the word “STOP” in reply several times in attempts to opt out of receiving the messages. Even though she received confirmation that she was unsubscribed, the unsolicited texts kept coming.

Eligible Class Members received text messages through an ExactTarget texting platform sent on behalf of Simply Fashion between July 23, 2009 and Sept. 30, 2013. Up to $1,500 per award is available, but will be distributed on a pro rata basis among Class Members who submit valid claims by June 12, 2018.

DuPont Titanium Dioxide Paint

If you bought architectural paint containing titanium dioxide manufactured by E.I. DuPont de Nemours and Company, Huntsman International LLC, Kronos Worldwide Inc., Cristal USA Inc. (formerly known as Millenium Inorganic Chemicals Inc.), you could qualify for a portion of a $3.5 million settlement.

The above-named companies allegedly engaged in a violation of federal antitrust laws when they conspired to raise and fix the price of titanium dioxide.

If you bought architectural paint for your home or business between Jan. 1, 2002 and Dec. 13, 2017, you could be entitled to 76 cents per gallon of paint. No proof of purchase is required for up to 10 gallons of paint, but any claims for 11 or more gallons do require a proof of purchase.

Tristar Power Pressure Cooker

If you own a Tristar power pressure cooker, you could receive a warranty extension and credit to purchase a new product.

Tristar denies its pressure cookers are defective, but plaintiffs claim the lids release steam dangerously and suddenly, lids have failed to stay in place, and some gaskets have failed to provide effective pressure relief.

Class Members include all U.S. consumers who bought a Tristar power pressure cooker between March 1, 2013 and Jan. 19, 2018. Qualifying Class Members can receive a $72.50 credit toward the purchase of other predetermined kitchen items and a free extension of their warranty on their current item.

The pressure is on to submit a claim by July 4, 2018. For a complete list of Tristar pressure cookers covered by this settlement and to file a claim, click here.

RMG Sunset Restaurants

A $6.1 million settlement has been reached with restaurants owned by RMG Sunset, which is accused of charging patrons a living wage surcharge that was not disclosed prior to ordering food and drinks.

If you visited California restaurants Cabo Cantina, Baja Beach Café, Fiesta Cantina, PB Cantina, Jameson’s Irish Pub or Sunset Trocadero Lounge from Jan. 1, 2012 to May 31, 2017, you could obtain a full refund of the amount paid in living wage surcharges.

California class members who do not submit a receipt may choose either a $3 payment or a 10% discount on a future restaurant visit.
