Rent Your Clothes Online for Extra Money
For some reason my closet is still holding onto the suit I wore to prom nearly 10 years ago. It’s never going to fit again, but some combination of laziness and sentiment has thus far kept it from landing on a Goodwill rack.

SnapGoods.com –
This is definitely the most well known company in the online rental arena. SnapGoods will let you list nearly anything to rent, including your clothes. And the best part? They have a guarantee. SnapGoods guaranteed that if something goes wrong, your goods will be repaired or replaced – in addition, they will provide a temporary replacement until the item you’ve loaned or rented out is fixed.
The downside of SnapGoods is meant to be used as a local renter service meaning that the owner and the renter must live in the same city. If you live in a small city, there might not be a lot of other people using the site.
DressVault.com –
This company specializes in letting women rent a dress from their collection, however they do have a forum where women can rent, swap, and sell dresses that the company might not offer. Its free to use, but be aware that renting via a forum does not come with any protections or insurance.

Zilok.com –
One of my favorite things about this company is that they require both parties to sign a contract and the renter must put down a deposit. If something were to happen to your clothes, the contract will give you the ability to recover your losses. Zilok charges the owner a commission after the transaction is completed. The commission varies from 5-9% depending on the rental price.

This site will also let you rent out just about anything. I noticed that several people have been recently renting out their old Halloween costumes. I wonder if anyone would rent my old Spiderman costume? 🙂
On a side note, I thought it was pretty cool that there is also a section of the website dedicated to teachers who want to rent/share their materials.

It’s not the fanciest site out of the bunch, but what it lacks in design in more than makes up for in costs. That’s because RentNotBuy.com doesn’t charge any fees to either the owner or the renter. Me like.

I didn’t find any clothes for rent on their site, but they do have a category for jewelry and handbags. I noticed a bunch of earrings and rings going for $30-$50/month. Not too bad…
If you do decide to rent out your clothes, be sure you get some protections. Whether it’s a contract or a deposit, you want to make sure you don’t suffer a loss.
